Description

19" x 12" (48 x 30 cm). A red velvet-covered plate is posed upright, surrounded by a plentitude of gilded metal symbols and decorations highlighted by a central dove with wreath of harmony, and two matching doves on either side. There are eight daisies, four maple leaves, various scrolled designs, and three rectangular mirrors representing the number of years of the engagement. Attached to the velvet is a very elaborate and intricate coronet designed to be worn on top of the head with attached necklace cascading around the face and throat; there are several additional gown ornaments. A personal memento, a little faux-ivory purse with silver inlay, is included although its significance is unknown. French, circa 1890.
