Description

20" x 15" (51 x 38 cm). A rich emerald green velvet-over-board frame in basket shape is decorated originally with generous gilded designs in the Art Nouveau manner, surmounted by a gilded wreath and scroll that rests above an oval mirror with hand-painted flowers. The "basket handle" is decorated with a cascade of hand-pressed and painted bisque flowers including roses, rosebuds, morning glories, bellflowers and lilies of the valley; there are 20 different flowers. In the center is arranged a rose velvet covered cushion with gilded petal-shaped trim, and arranged upon the cushion is the bride's coronet and wedding corsage in a unique design of tiny wax orange blossoms and seed pearls arranged in a sun ray fashion. Attached to the arrangement are objects of family memories throughout the coming years, significantly memories of their son's military service in World War II, and his safe return in 1947. A splendid presentation made notable by lavish original flowers, unique bride's coronet, and evocative family objects. The arrangement sits upon its original oval wooden base with blown glass globe. French, circa 1915.
