Description
20" x 15" (51 x 38 cm). An oval-shaped maroon velvet covered plate is richly embellished with gold-plated embossed metal ribbons and silver ivy leaves. At the crest there is a silver and gold kingfisher bird with a small bit of straw in its beak as though building a nest; the kingfisher bird symbolized faithfulness. Mounted upon the velvet plate is an extraordinary detailed wax orange blossom coronet with attached necklace. This coronet was designed to be worn at the top of the head, allowing the necklace to fall in a free and graceful manner. There is one wax orange blossom earring. The arrangement rests upon a wooden ebony-finished base (one side wall missing) under blown glass dome. French, circa 1890.
