30" A mahogany table model case with carved frontispiece and a sliding drawer for disc storage and a hinged lid. This is a loud and beautiful-sounding musical box with duplex combs of 84 notes apiece. Mermod's specially patented "Stella" system was designed to play projection-less discs, making it easy to store a large number of tune selections in just a small space. Inside of the box is the celluloid label of Mermod's agent, Jacot & Son of 39 Union Square, est. 1816, who were in the practice of importing the bare movements and encasing them in New York. Forty 17 1/2" tune discs are included with period numbers such as "I Guess I'll Have to Telegraph My Baby" and "A Hot Time in the Old Town", and tearjerkers such as "She was Happy till She Met You!" and standards such as "Star-Spangled Banner". Circa 1899.
