Description
Arranged upon an ebonized wooden base with elaborate paper mache base having grassy ground cover, a large rock formation that encloses the porcelain face clock, and an arbor tree with leaves and flowers, is a Monkey Marquis seated upon a wooden stool playing his violin. The monkey has glass eyes, hinged jaw white mohair hair and beard, wooden arms and legs, and wears his original silk costume. The scene and clock are preserved under glass dome that bears an original boutique label.
Movement: He blinks his eyes, moves his head up and down as though in time to the music, both lips move, and he plays the violin with the bow held in his left hand. The movement is extended and pleasing. Music plays. Circa 1885.
