Description

A bisque-head woman with blue glass eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, carton torso and legs, and metal hands, is posed in seated position, atop a piano stool, in front of an upright piano. The piano, of superb cabinetry in rosewood and ebony woods, has inlay designs, ormolu foot pedals, bone and ebony keys, and is decorated with ormolu triple candleholders, music rack and ormolu basket for flowers. The lady is dressed in her original elaborate silk gown, and is connected to the piano by rod from her torso into the piano.

Movements: In a complicated, yet realistic and elegant manner, the lady turns her head from side to side as though watching her hands on the keys, occasionally lifting her head to look at the sheet music; meanwhile her fingers move across the keys, pausing on occasion as though the music had directed her so.

Historical References: Several branches of the French toy industry were combined to create this felicitous creation. The bisque doll head is of fine quality from the porcelain works of Gaultier, the cabinet work of the miniature piano is superb as are its ornamentations, the musical works from Genevan makers, and the mechanical works that create the final movement all contributed to Vichy's masterful creation.
