A bisque-head boy with brown glass eyes, closed mouth, and beautifully sculpted features, has brown mohair wig, carton torso and legs, metal hands, and is seated upon a velvet covered box with ebony legs, holding a violin and bow. He wears ice blue and cream silk satin pageboy costume with contrasting panels, lace and metallic trim decorations, and matching cap and cape. Hidden under his cape is a small silk candy sack with drawstring top and firm sides.
Movements: He turns his head from side to side, and moves his right arm at the elbow and the wrist to provide a realistic movement of playing the violin bow. Music plays.
Historical References: A luxury model yet of diminutive size, the automaton was used by prestige Parisian chocolate shops as a deluxe manner of packaging candies. The bisque head chosen for such presentations was always of a special quality as the purpose of the automaton was two-fold, first as a sumptuous presentation for candy, and secondly, as a objet d'art to be preserved for the salon.
