Description

A walnut case with inlay name Symphonion on the lid, and Symphonion name stamped on the bedplate, has an inner lid picture of cherubs in a playful musician scene. The musical box is lever wound, with 48 note musical movement and zither attachment. There are six 10" discs with various tunes included.

Historical References: Created to compete with the Swiss cylinder box industry, Symphonion introduced the first practical disc music box in the 1880's. As part of their competitive thrust, the musical boxes were mounted in the fanciest of cases with the Symphonion name boldly emblazoned, a not-so-subtle reminder as to the name of the maker of this lovely music. Circa 1900.
