The barrel organ, designed as a salon centerpiece in a private home, is encased in beautiful Honduras mahogany cabinet with lid and side and front panels that are removable to view the interior movement when in play. The organ comprises a pinned wooden music 23" l. x 6" diameter cylinder that offers a selection of 8 popular melodies. The 31 key movement features 4 ranks of organ pipes including brass and wood trumpets, open-pewter piccolo pipes and closed and stopped bass flutes; 67 pipes in all. There is a triangle and though the mechanism is lacking a drum and drum support bridge the drum key is intact. The organ produces a fine sound and loud volume.
Historical References: The barrel organ is in the style of those built by Rolin Chommasin of Mirecourt (Vosges) France and that were sold by Jerome Thibouville-Lamy of Paris and London. The remarkable quality of the furniture case provides yet another use for the organ as it is a superb presentation surface for a large automaton. Circa 1880.
