Description

Standing upon a velvet covered wooden platform is a bisque-head doll with brown glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, brunette mohair wig, bisque shoulder plate, carton torso and legs, bisque hands. The doll wears her superb traditional costume of Normandy featuring an ivory silk satin dress with lace fiche, silk apron, splendid lace coiffe, and carries a bouquet of flowers in her left hand, and a tiny feathered bird in nest in her left hand. The doll is marked Depose Tete Jumeau, the key is marked L.B., and an original tune label marked with intertwined initial GD has the script tune name "...Pere la Victoire".

Movements: The girl turns her head side to side, nods toward the flowers that she lifts as though to sniff them, then turns toward the bird, and extends it as though to show to other. She repeats the motions in an elegant and graceful way. Music plays.

Historical References: The automaton was featured in the Lambert catalog as "Bebe Oiseau", number 37. Circa 1890.
