4" German Mechanical Singing Bird in a Silver Box

A heavy silver-plated box is decorated with richly embossed details on all sides, top and bottom, depicting vibrant village life. There are different scenes on each side, including on the oval pop-up lid, a scene on the oval pop-up lid, a scene of the local bird merchant showing a bird to three eager lookers-on. When the lid opens, it reveals a colorful feathered bird with resting compartment in filigree base. The bird winds at the bottom with a bird-shaped silvered key, and the opening clasp is also in the shape of a bird. The bird turns side to side, flutters its wings, and opens and closes its beak while chirping.
