Description

A bisque-head man with black sculpted hair, moustache, and goatee, painted blue eyes, carton body, and carved hands and lower legs with painted boots, is seated upon a metal three-wheeled cycle. The man is wearing his original costume with rich blue and red silk jacket with soutache trim, tie, and ivory silk pants and shirt. The cycle has spoked wheels with red and yellow paint. The painting of the man's face is especially fine, an early work of the Gaultier firm of Paris.

Movements: He pedals the bike which moves forward and around in circles. The man also appears to steer the cycle by moving steering wheel to and fro. Circa 1860.
