Description
A gilded bird cage with gold-leaf over gesso on wooden carved base has metal cage with heavy brass cap and carrying loop. A brass bird perch rests upon an interior green velvet cover, and posed on the vine-covered perch is a brown and white feathered bird. When keywound and lever released, the bird turns his head side to side, opens and closes his beak and flutters his tail feathers. The bird issues realistic bird sounds including trills and chirps. When the song pauses, the bird flitting pauses. When the bird song becomes more rapid, he flutters his wings more rapidly. Circa 1890.
