Seated upon a wooden stool that contains the clockwork mechanism with its seat is a black-complexioned boy posed in a carefree manner, holding a banjo. He has a paper mache head, brown glass eyes, mohair lashes, very handsome countenance, slightly parted lips with a row of teeth, black fleeced hair, carton torso and legs, hinged right leg, paper mache hands, and is wearing striped brown silk pants, brown jacket, white cotton shirt, brown cap, and is barefoot. He holds a wooden banjo.
Movements: He turns his head from side to side and nods, his eyelids open and close, he picks the banjo strings, and his leg taps, assumedly in time to the music.
Historical References: The automata was featured in an early Vichy catalog, named Petit Negro jouant du banjo, #599. The model was described as being deposed and signed G.V. Circa 1890.
