Standing upon a bronze green velvet covered base is a bisque-head doll holding a guitar. The doll has beautiful bisque complexion and painted features, pale blue eyes, closed mouth, pale lambswool wig, shaped torso with blue and maroon silk costume outlined in gold banding. At his back torso is a porcelain-tipped knob, which when turned, creates a lovely tune, and the doll moves its right arm up and down as though strumming the guitar.
Historical References: In this lovely presentation, the doll and musical box makers again combined, creating a lovely-to-look-at object that also had mechanical action and played a lively tune. In this case, however, more interaction was required by the user, as the object needed to be continuously wound. The result was laborious although quite lovely and since few examples of this style of manivelle still survive, it seems likely that the venture was not terribly successful at the time of its making, thus making it quite rare today.
