Description

Standing upon a flat velvet-covered platform is a stunningly beautiful woman with ebony black complexion. She has leather over composition head, brown glass eyes, leather eyelids, open mouth, row of tiny teeth, black fleecy hair, carton torso and legs, metal painted hands. She is wearing an exotic costume of red silk taffeta with metallic edging and coin decorations, silk heeled shoes, and is holding a wooden lyre with painted decorations. There is an original RD key and pull lever.

Movements: She moves her head from side to side, nods in a circling motion, flutters her eyes, and runs her hands over the lyre strings independently of each other. Music plays.

Historical References: The automaton, names Negresse Fouant de la Lyre, was features as #2 in the Roullet et Decamps catalog. In the ultra-deluxe category, she cost more than twice the price of other deluxe models. The automata with leather faces were able to achieve a superb smoothness of complexion, with luminous richness of color.
