Arranged on a black platform base under a glass dome is a paper mache clown lying on a table and juggling with his feet. The theatrical style background features a mirrored back with silk side curtains and canvas floor decorated with decoupage and metallic edging. A carved leg white table is set in the middle of the room, and a clown with painted features is lying on the table, his head lowered, one arm behind his head, the other holding a hoop, and his feet in the air with a decorated roll balanced on the toe of one foot. The music and mechanism operate from keywind at back, and pull-lever at the side. The original tune program lists two tunes (illegible).
Movements: The clown raises and lowers his head while simultaneously his legs move back and forth and the balancing roll pivots as though he is moving it from foot to foot. Music plays.
Historical References: Attributed to Phalibois, although the theatrical subject seems an unusual subject for that firm whose other works were more centered on scenes of domestic bliss or aristocratic monkeys. Circa 1880.
