Description
A woman is posed side-saddle upon a carved wooden horse which, in turn, rests upon a metal three-wheeled base. The woman has paper mache head with enamel eyes, beautifully painted diminutive features, kid body, antique silk and velvet riding costume, original wig and velvet riding hat. The kid-skin covered horse in galloping position has glass eyes, horsehair tail and man, and beautiful leather saddle and harness. When wound at clockwork mechanism hidden in box beneath the horse, the horse glides along, turns, and by means of a unique spring apparatus the woman appears to bounce up and down as though riding. Circa 1850.
