Description
The chip-carved figure depicts a casually dressed man with rumpled top hat, leaning against a carved wooden lamppost. Delicately painted details enhance the carving including red bow tie and belt, and the detail of flame in the lamp. His face is highly characterized with enhanced tinting of features and the man has a deep, dark patina overall. unlike the later figures by Griesbaum this example is not electrified, and the head-turning and whistling sounds are made with a keywind mechanism housed in the back torso. There is a chip on the hat brim. The man has a measured, mellow whistle. Circa 1940.
