Description

14" (36 cm.) Bisque socket head with distinctive matte complexion and facial shape portraying urchin child, small brown/green glass inset eyes in deeply modeled eye sockets, tinted brows and eye shadow, small nose with accent dots, closed mouth with pursed lips and center accent line, auburn mohair bobbed wig, five piece French paper mache body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: SFBJ 239 Paris Poulbot. Comments: SFBJ, circa 1916, the model was designed by the noted French illustrator, Poulbot, after the Montmartre orphan children featured in his WWI posters, and offered in Paris department store catalogs for only two years. Value Points: rare character with superb detail of sculpting and painting, original body, original costume.
