16" (41 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, small blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips and tentative smiling expression, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid body with square collarette, all-wooden arms with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, and wrists. Condition: generally excellent, light long-ago retouch on hands. Marks: F (head and shoulders). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1872,the facial model deposed by Bru in that year, presumably inspired by the beloved Empress Eugenie. Value Points: beautiful portrait head, original Bru body with wooden arms, lovely antique gown may be original, undergarments, shoes.
