17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, plump facial modeling, dark blue enamel inset eyes in well-detailed eye socket cuts, painted lashes and feathered brows, closed mouth with hint of smile, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French all-wooden body with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, swivel waist, wearing lovely antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (illegible letter or number at back of head). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1867, the earliest version of his smiling poupee. Value Points: rare poupee with superb detail of facial modeling, choice bisque, beautiful all-wooden body with extra articulations.
