28" (72 cm.) All carved wooden doll with one piece head and torso, heart-shaped face with pointy chin and very full cheek bones, well- defined carved details of eye sockets, eye lids, strong nose, mouth, chin, ears, and scalloped edge bodice with shaped bosom and high waist, human hair, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: finish is quite worn, left leg may be replaced. Comments: late 18th century, Continental, provenance ex-collection of Henri Rene d'Allemagne, 19th century French toy historian. Value Points: despite its loving wear, the doll maintains an appealing majesty and unique personality; included is an early wooden chair, and (very frail) original gown.
