Glazed porcelain socket head with pink-tinted and blushed complexion, slender face of adult lady with angular cheek bones and chin, cut pate, painted facial features, heavily modeled eyelids, eyeliner encircles the intaglio sockets, painted lashes, arched brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils of aquiline nose, closed mouth with center accent line, brunette human hair in upswept fashion over cork pate, composition shoulder plate, kid gusset-jointed fashion body with porcelain lower arms, wearing beautiful antique black silk gown with elaborate train, undergarments, shoes. Condition: porcelain excellent, body is appropriately sized and styled although it is likely the doll was originally offered without a body. Marks: Marquisette (incised). Comments: Sevres, Paris, from a series of seven artistic doll heads created by the French national porcelain firm in 1917-1918 as part of the "Renaissance of the French Doll" movement; the heads appeared in an exhibition and were then placed in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. Value Points: very rare and important doll in French history with most artistic sculpting and painting; few examples are known to exist.
