Description
17" (44 cm.) H. Arranged upon a wooden platform
is a very elaborate arrangement of gilded objects
including dove,flowers,leaves,framed beveled
mirrors,wheat,and more,enclosing a tufted red
velvet cushion, upon which is arranged an
elaborate coronet of wax orange blossoms worn as
a wedding day headdress; the entire arrangement
is enclosed within a blown glass dome. The
wedding "globe de mariage" was presented to the
bride-to-be upon her engagement and symbolic
objects were added to the globe as the
engagement,then wedding,then marriage of the
couple followed. The tradition began about 1840
in provincial France,centered in Normandy,and
ended after WWI. Circa 1880. Excellent condition.
