20" (51 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead of adult woman
posed in haughty manner with slender
face,elongated throat,brown glass eyes,heavily
modeled eyelids,dark eyeliner,painted
lashes,feathered brows,accented nostrils of
aquiline nose,closed mouth with accent line
between the lips,blonde mohair wig in upswept
fashion over plaster pate,kid pin-jointed fashion
body with slender shape,bisque forearms.
Condition: one piece break and reglue above right
ear at crown rim,back of head hairline. Comments:
Kestner,circa 1910,their Gibson Girl
model,designed by Charles Dana Gibson from his
illustrations of turn-of-the-society ladies; the
doll was originally owned by Mary Lynde
Harper,born in 1898,of the Harper Magazine
family; included is the Baby Book (illustrated by
Ida Waugh) of Mary Harper including photographs
of her holding this and other dolls,and a
wonderful list of her first Christmas gifts that
included many dolls such as Topsy and Eva doll
from Aunt Ida Crocker and a cymbal doll from Aunt
Kathleen Baker. Value Points: the Gibson Girl
wears her superb original ivory satin wedding
gown with extended train,pearl trim,porcelain
cologne bottle with gilt trim,undergarments
include pink brocade corset,shoes,original wig
with comb.
