Description

14" (36 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, pale blue glass enamel inset eyes with brilliant color, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, very light blown-leather body with articulation at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, original kid-wrapped feet to suggest slippers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Pierre Vincent Clement, his deposed body style of 1867 featuring a molded hollowed-leather doll body that he described as "the most beautiful, lightest and most rugged made to date". Clements original occupation was as leather shoe- maker that explains his interest in the subject, and also the curious stitched-on leather "slippers" on this model. Value Points: very rare doll to find, this example an unusual petite size with unusual feet covering, along with antique undergarments, velvet dress with silk plaid ribbons, white pique dress, red silk bone- handled parasol, leather boots. An early wooden doll chair is included.
