Description
11" x 14" photographs. 19" x 24" mats. In a pair of sepia-toned photographs, a young boy and girl, presumably brother and sister, are seated on the same tapestry and fringe covered chair, proudly holding an early Bebe Steiner in their arms. The original photograph mats are signed Maunoury in ink script. Eugenie Maunoury, the French photographer was a noted early photographer in Lima, Peru, forming a studio partnership with Eugenio Courret from 1862/1865, considered the leading Peruvian portrait photographer of the 19th century. The style of costumes and period of doll indicate these photographs, in rare large size and unusual as a matched set, to be from the 1880 era when presumably Maunoury was again working in Paris. Excellent condition.
