Description
15" x 15". A wooden framed box contains a mechanical game in which six tin lithographed aeroplanes race around a course when a lever is drawn and released at the side. Each aeroplane is a different color, and the players choose their plane; the plane that ends at the "But" (goal) is the winner. Silver embossed plaque at the side "Jeu de Course, M.J. & Cie" with design of racing horses. The popular French parlor game usually featured a horse race; this example is exceptionally rare and superbly preserved in its original box. French, circa 1890.
