A wooden box unfolds to become a schoolroom, with arched crest labeled "Ecole", slanted roof, paper lithographed tile floors, with interior furnishings including teacher's desk, four double student's desks and benches, single desk for dunce, along with various accessories including blackboard, globe, maps and charts, school lessons, and with larger bisque doll as teacher, and seven bisque students. When wound, music plays and the bespectacled teacher turns her head from side to side, and points with the rod she holds in her hand. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1890,various styles of toy schoolrooms were popular offerings in Paris Etrennes catalogs; those with music and movement were considered luxury models. Value Points: fine original condition of the toy with eight dolls, many accessories, music and movement.
