18" (46 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head, deep blue glass enamel in set eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, lightly feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, original all-wooden body with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, separately sculpted fingers and toes, original undergarments. Condition: generally excellent, baby finger broken. Marks: 2. Comments: Bebe Modele, by Leon Casimir Bru, 1879, the doll was made for one year only, influence by the style of his earlier wooden-bodied poupee. Value Points: extremely rare Bru bebe, few examples are known to exist, with spectacular sculpting, quality of bisque and painting, wonderfully articulated body.
