Description

21" (54 cm.) Bisque socket head with flattened solid dome, very plump facial modeling, blue glass inset eyes with paperweight effect, painted lashes, widely arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, brunette mohair bobbed wig, composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: attributed to Ernst Grossman, Germany, circa 1880, the firm registered the first model of ball-jointed body in Germany in that year. Value Points: very rare early Germany doll with distinctive early body, the model is virtually not to be found especially in this larger size, and with choice bisque, sculpting and painting, antique mariner costume, original body finish.
