Pressed bisque socket head with deeply defined facial features, grey/blue enamel glass eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, antique maroon velvet dress with velvet edging, lavish maroon velvet bonnet, undergarments, black leather boots. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4 T. M. Comments: Alexandre Tiburce Mothereau, circa 1880,the bebe bears the initials for Tiburce and Mothereau, and pre-dates the Mothereau and Bayeaux partnership of 1881. Value Points: very early example of the rare bebe, bearing the sole signature of Mothereau, exceptional detail of sculpting includes double-dimpled chin, strong philtrum, full cheeks, enhanced by choicest quality of bisque, original body and body finish, fine antique costume.
