Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead with blonde sculpted hair held by a black painted hair band, painted facial features, blue eyes, closed mouth, muslin body, bisque lower limbs, painted brown ankle boots with blue ties. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1865, the doll is costumed in the uniform of the Vivandiere, comprising wool jacket, blue skirt with epaulets, US brass belt buckle, leather purse, drum and silver scissors in leather case, and was actually designed as a "sewing companion". The costume, that of the Vivandiere who served wounded troops during the American Civil War, was likely a poignant reminder of the war for a home-bound needle worker. Value Points: the unique doll and costume is well-preserved with excellent details.
