Mold-pressed leather doll has aristocratic appearance, separately formed head with socket neck, aquiline nose, cut-out eye sockets with inset glazed eyes, stitched pierced ears, elongated throat, elaborately coiffed hair, stitched seam shapely body with modeled bosom, tiny waist, stitched and separated long fingers. Condition: generally excellent, tiny nose tip wear. Comments: France, circa 1875,the maker is unknown although a smaller version of the doll was shown in L' Illustration magazine toward the end of the century in a famous exhibition of French dolls. Value Points: extremely rare doll of outstanding beauty, regal presentation, intricate construction, wearing original ivory silk taffeta gown with lace, pearl beads, and metallic trim, elaborately wrapped turban, gold gold earrings and necklace, still preserved in her original wooden box.
