
23" (58 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head with oval-shaped face, very elongated strong throat and modeled bosom, sculpted hair in elaborate arrangement with center part, tight curls at each side of face, and coiled braid atop the head, exposed ears, painted facial features, downward-glancing shaded turquoise eyes, black upper eyeliner, feathered brows, closed mouth with accented pale lips, early muslin stitch- jointed body, leather arms with separated fingers, nicely costumed in appropriately styled gown, undergarments, antique slippers. Condition: split across the back shoulder plate (under costume),otherwise the finish is original and virtually flawless with a fine patina. Comments: Germany, circa 1840. Value Points: very rare early model with elaborate coiffure, modeled bosom, large size.
