Description
12" (30 cm.) Of very lightweight hollow paper mache, the articulated doll portrays an early 19 th century French soldier, having articulated head, arms and legs, with painted and sculpted hair and facial features, smiling expression, separately modeled hat with painted French emblem attached to head with metal pin, sculpted and painted military costume including details such as painted buttons, high leggings, and cuffs. Condition: generally excellent, painted finish is all original albeit with pleasing faded patina. Comments: French, circa 1840. Value Points: few street bazaar toys of this period still exist, this remarkable example in fine condition and most appealing.
