20" (52 cm.) A bisque-headed doll with blue glass eyes, mohair lashes, open mouth, blonde mohair wig, carton torso, composition legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing aqua and ivory silk costume and Polichinelle cap, is seated upon a maple wood bench, and holds a toy in each hand. When wound a series of movements occur: the doll turns her head side to side, nods her head, blinks her eyes, kicks her right foot to the side in a happy gesture, and alternately plays with the richly carved bone rattle she holds in her right hand and the bisque-headed Polichinelle doll she holds in her left hand; music plays all the while. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: SH (head). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1900. Value Points: wonderful automaton with five well- functioning movements, most appealing activities with matching-costumed Polichinelle, lovely music.
