13"l. 15"h. A bisque-headed lady with blue glass eyes, painted lashes, and brows, closed mouth, brunette curls, carton torso and legs posed to allow her to sit side-saddle on the donkey, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, is seated on a paper-mache donkey with flocked finish, glass eyes, elaborate head harness, and the entire arrangement is posed atop a three wheeled tinplate base that hides a mechanical device. When wound, the platform propels forward and in circles, while the lady's arms, holding the reins, move and down, she nods her head,and the donkey bobs its head up and down. Condition: slight fraility to original costume, mechanism functions well, hairline on forehead. Comments: attributed to Vichy, circa 1880. Value Points: rare and delightful automaton with amusing action, the lady with elaborate original costume.
