23" (59 cm.) The early desk with marble top is made of fine mahagony with maple wood interiors and maple wood striped veneers outlining the leather writing surface, with three drawers, ogee- shaped crest, four miniature drawers and niche, with lock and key. French, circa 1830,the quality of construction and woods indicates the desk was made as a maitrise model by skilled cabinet maker. Included are five miniature children's books: Le Petit Conteur with engravings (c. 1850), Les Psaumes de David (1837), Souvenirs d'un Petit Vogageur (c. 1850), and two others.
