11" x 8". A wooden framed domed box with serpentine shape is richly covered in purple velvet with metallic and bead thread, and bronze mountings, and opens to a beautifully fitted interior with various bone sewing implements, gold thimble, brass sampler stencils, wooden embroidery hoop, little boxes with lithographed covers containing pins, buttons and such; a hidden compartment contains an assortment of sewing accessories collected by the original user including an intriguing maple wood pin cushion from the same era with a design of the United States Capitol Building in Washington. Excellent condition. French, circa 1880.
