Description
24" (60 cm.) Four wooden horses in racing pose, with dappled flannel covers, glass eyes, horsehair manes, saddle blankets, are arranged upon a wire-frame base with metal spoked wheels. Balancing upon the backs of the two rear horses is a bisque-headed doll with painted facial features, smiling expression, wearing circus performer costume. Arranged upon the backs of the two front horses are elaborate bells with blue bead dangles. When the horses are pulled along they appear to buck up and down as though racing. Overall excellent, some general dustiness, head appears one size too large. Probably German, circa 1890.
