Description
17" (44 cm.) Solid domed wax-over-paper mache head with painted baby hair, blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, open mouth with two upper and two lower teeth, attached in an intricate manner to muslin-over-carton torso with wire upper arms, composition lower arms, metal hinged upper arms, composition lower legs. When wooden dowels in chest are pushed, the doll waves its arms and legs, and turns its head from side to side. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: The body style and construction indicates possible early model of the Jules Steiner Gigoteur prior to the clockwork system, circa 1865. Value Points: very rare doll in wonderfully preserved condition.
