Description

23" (59 cm.) overall. Standing upon a wooden platform with velvet cover is a bisque-headed doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush stroked and multi- feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the accented lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair over cork pate, French carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque fore arms and hands, moss green and ivory silk satin costume, green shoes, straw bonnet, muslin undergarments. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 4 (and artist checkmarks on head). LB (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, when wound, music plays and the doll turns her head side to side, nods, and strums the mandolin. Value Points: a beautiful automaton with well-functioning music and motion, very choice bisque and quality of wooden inlay mandolin.
