14" (36 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead, dark complexion, black sculpted hair in unruly curls, neatly-trimmed short black beard, enamel eyes in deeply set sockets, mouth modeled as though open, row of teeth, tongue, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, wearing shepherd's homespun costume, wrapped leggings, kidskin sandals with lacing and carrying kidskin shoulder bag and wooden bagpipe with goat hide bag. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, late 1700s, attributed to the school of Francesco Celebrano, director of modelers for the Naples Royal Factory, whose particular focus was creation of presepio figures.
