23" x 11" (58 cm x.28 cm.) Wooden box with decorative paper covers, gilt edging, and gilt lettering "Loterie",hinges open in an elaborate multi-step red silk covered arrangement with mirrored backs that is arranged with a miniature carnival roulette wheel along with a multitude of small "prizes" including two small all-jointed Grodnertal wooden dolls, paper mache lamb, toleware, little toys and cards. The loterie toys were popular offerings in French Etrennes catalogs during the late 19th century. An exceptional example with luxury details such as silk lining, original gilt lettering, superb unplayed with condition. French, circa 1890.
