24" (61 cm). One-piece wooden head and torso having shaped definition of facial lines including cheekbones, full lower cheeks, aquiline nose, little pointy chin, carved ears, strong well- defined throat, painted pale complexion with blush spots on cheeks, fringed painted lashes encircling the black enamel inset eyes, dot-fringed brows, closed mouth with center accent line, black human hair over tacked-on muslin cap, modeled bosom and tapered waist, block torso below the waist, dowel-jointed wooden legs with knee and hip jointing, shapely lower legs with defined calves, muslin upper arms, wooden lower arms with carved fingers, wearing delicate early gown, undergarments, stockings, red kidskin slippers. Condition: generally excellent, unrestored, some typical minor craquelure, nose rub, three fingers broken. Comments: English, early 18th century. Value Points: the grand size and gentle presence of the lady and the splendid attention to sculptural detail of face and upper torso indicate its creation for aristocratic society, while its well- preserved state enhances this original beauty.
