19" (49 cm). Firmly stuffed swivel head with long snout, shoe-button eyes, brown embroidered nose and mouth, stitched ears, excelsior-filled body with hump, disc-jointed elongated arms with felt paw- pads, hip-jointed short legs with large feet, felt paw-pads. Metal button in ear with Steiff block letters, underscored last F. Steiff, Germany, circa 1915. Excellent condition, mohair slightly sparse at nose, one small black spot on footpad. A wonderful early teddy with rare cinnamon color mohair and provenance. The bear belonged to Easter Ellen Cupp, born on Easter day, March 30,1904; she was the first woman in North America to receive a doctorate in oceanography in 1934. The bear was purchased from Marshall Fields in Chicago and presented to Easter when she was five years old.
