28" (71 cm). All-cloth doll with flat-dimensional facial features, oil painted hair in delicate brown scalloped curls framing the face, painted brown eyes with brown eyeliner and shading, outlined nose, closed mouth with outlined lips, blushed cheeks, muslin stitch-jointed body, antique multi-layered baby costume. Condition: fair, in well-loved, unrestored condition. Marks: The Columbian Doll, Manufactured by Marietta Adams Ruttan, Oswego N.Y. Comments: Columbian Doll, the model was exhibited at the Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago where it was awarded the Gold Medal; the doll was made by the Adams sisters, Emma and Marietta of Oswego, N.Y. Value Points: rare large size with unusual signature of Marietta Adams Ruttan that is rarely found on these dolls.
