22" (56 cm.) All-carved wooden doll, solid-domed ball-shaped wooden socket head with carved details of side-parted hair, dowel-attached to large one-piece chubby torso pin-jointed carved wooden arms and legs in toddler shape. The doll has original cream-painted overall finish, the hair has shaded brown coloring, and painted facial features include shaded blue eyes, upper eyelashes, short brows, button-shaped nose, closed mouth with painted teeth, blushed cheeks. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, mid-1800s, the doll was hand-carved from a large wooden tree stump, likely by family member; the rough-textured grains are still evident. Value Points: rare American handmade early doll of found natural woods.
